A new Academy

The plan is to open a new Academy school to replace the existing Rhodesway School in Allerton, Bradford, from September 2009.

The proposed Academy will be a co-educational, multi-ethnic school, driven by an ethos of diversity, challenge and achievement.

With the support of students' families and their wider community the Academy wants to raise expectations and develop personal confidence in all areas of its students' lives.

The Academy aims to build on the recent improvements of Rhodesway School to achieve further successes.

The Academy vision is to provide high quality education and training, enriched throughout by technology, for the benefit of its students, staff and the wider community of Bradford.

The Academy will:

• Have a focus on health and science

• Be supported by an established, successful local school - Dixons City Academy - which will be educational sponsor of the Academy

• Provide a solid foundation on which to build on the recent success of Rhodesway School, providing a more secure future for it students

• Aim to make itself the first choice school for the local community

Sponsor

As a successful school, Dixons Academy Trust is providing educational sponsorship for the proposed Academy a new arrangement for Academy schools which replaces sponsorship funding.

Specialism

Working with its local partners throughout Bradford, the Academy will promote health and science as its key specialisms, encouraging excellence in teaching and learning in these subject areas.

The feasibility phase of the project aims to be completed by this summer when a feasibility plan and proposal will be presented to the DCSF and ministers. If approval is given, the project will then move into its implementation phase and the Academy will open for students in September 2009 within the existing school. It is proposed to start building a new school on the site at the same time which would be completed by September 2010.

Academies are a new breed of schools which are independent, but publicly funded and designed to deliver real and lasting improvements to education standards.
